Since her first day at Asaha High School gaming club, Kana Fujita would never forget the name "Nadeshiko."
The reason is that when she was admiring the game records left by their seniors who had already graduated with her fellow new students at the club admission party, she saw t
rophies of incredible action game achievements on almost all platforms, such as: "First player to clear God of Darkness;" "Fastest solo clear time of Nidhogg;" "Clearing Cra
zy Fighting Soul on Hell difficulty without dying;" etc.
After her cousin introduced her to the world of video games in her second year of elementary school, Kana Fujita was famous for a while as the "Queen of Luck" named after he
r amazing luck.
When she saw the records—achievement records that were deemed to be impossible—that she had challenged and failed to complete, displayed quietly on the computer screen in th
e gaming club, she became deeply aware of how superficial her understanding of games was.
Although luck is part of one's ability, it couldn't completely replace it.
Kana Fujita, who had always had an easy time with games, felt frustrated due to this comparison. She felt bound by the name "Nadeshiko." Whenever she encountered difficultie
s, she couldn't help but wonder what Nadeshiko would do.
In her free time, she would imagine what kind of person this Nadeshiko was since she was so good at playing games. Would she be handsome with short hair, or would she be a c
ute-looking gap moe girl? It seems that the heavens really do have a soft spot for Kana Fujita as it wasn't long after this that she had a chance encounter with this senpai
she was so enamored with at the Mahjong Soul Shrine.
Her senpai had come to play mahjong at the shrine with her school nurse Ayane Kisaragi. Sitting at the mahjong table, she seemed to have a halo behind her and was confident,
easygoing, and generous. She was completely different from what Kana Fujita had imagined, but funny enough, she didn't feel anything strange about it, almost as if it was c
ompletely normal for her to be like that.
"Aren't you going to play?" Nadeshiko suddenly asked after playing a Hanchan, probably because Kana Fujita's eyes were too focused on her. "It's not that fun to just watch m
ahjong. You have to play to really enjoy it."
"But..."
"You don't know how to play? I'll teach you then." As if she instantly understands why she hesitated, Nadeshiko stands and gives Kana her spot.
It turns out that Nadeshiko is a video game expert and a mahjong expert. Under her guidance, it didn't take very long for Kana Fujita to learn how to play, and she even fini
shed in first place with a difference of 500 points due to her luck.
"You're amazing." Nadeshiko's unreserved praise gives Kana Fujita the affirmation she needs.
Kana Fujita looks at the mahjong tiles in front of her with disbelief.
"I... won?"
"Yes, it was a beautiful win. Do you agree with me now? Mahjong is a fun game."
"I've seen your name on the records of the gaming club. You completed so many impossible challenges that I couldn't complete, so I thought I wouldn't be able to play mahjong
like you either..." Kana Fujita's shackles didn't disappear with her victory. She wasn't as happy as she imagined either.
"The gaming club? I think I did join that club when I was in high school." Nadeshiko was initially shocked, but she soon started smiling. "I thought those challenge records
were deleted long ago. I didn't expect they would be kept for so long."
Kana Fujita's eyes widen with surprise: "You forgot all about that? If I accomplished something so amazing, I would remember it for the rest of my life."
"No matter how good it is, the past is the past. Don't you think the present and the future matter more?" Sitting beside her, Nadeshiko smiles freely like nothing can stop h
er from walking towards her future.
When Kana Fujita watched Nadeshiko and Ayane Kisaragi talk and laugh while leaving the Mahjong Soul Shrine, she set a small goal for herself in her heart.
"If I challenge her for those trophies in the gaming club, all I'll do is follow in Senpai's footsteps. The only way I'll surpass her is to defeat her at the mahjong table i
n the future."
"I definitely won't lose this time! Especially in a game like mahjong where luck is really important."
