Ako Atarashi is a first-year student at Achiga Girls' Academy. When she was in elementary school, she went to the same Mahjong class as Shizuno Takakamo and Nodoka Haramura. In middle school, she went to a different school than the other two, and they joined their respective Mahjong Clubs. However, to attend the same high school as Shizuno and to meet Nodoka again, she entered Achiga Girls' Academy. She is intelligent and good with calculations.

- Phew... I'm saved. If it wasn't for your guidance, who knows when would I find my way to this shrine. You have my gratitude. I'm Ako Atarashi, Achiga Mahjong Club's lieutenant. Any chance you're here to train too?
- Yo, Yu and the gang have arrived at the shrine. You can go join them first. I can't find Shizu anywhere. Who knows where she got lost this time. I'll have to bring her back first. See you later.
- *Yawn* Good morning... I stayed up late last night. Still feeling kinda sleepy. You head to the match room first. I'll join you later after taking a shower in the shrine's bathroom.
- Ahh... So tired... I can barely feel my hands anymore. The last time I was this exhausted was still back when I was traveling around. But if I want to become stronger, this is still far from enough... Alright, one more round!
- The next time you meet Kirara, can you give this thing to her? She asked for this makeup sample, but we did not cross paths these few days. I'm afraid I'll forget to bring it the next time we meet.
- Everyone has bad luck sometimes. You might feel like you're doing everything wrong, and it's totally normal to think that. I mean, who cares if you're demotivated once in a while? I won't laugh at you, but still, don't forget to get yourself together after that.
- Ah! Nodoka's log, what a beauty to behold. Every move feels justified. Although I'm a little jealous, I must admit that she's the closest thing to my ideal type. What a pity that we are playing different positions, thus unable to have a formal showdown.
- Getting light-headed? You must have been playing Mahjong for too long. Didn't I tell you to prepare some food? Playing Mahjong takes a lot of energy, you know... Here, take this chocolate. Just remember to bring something to repay me the next time, okay?
- Wah... Ah, you... you didn't hear that. No funny faces! Seriously... Come on, I was scared back there. It's not like I can control it...
- You've been staring at that gift box for so long. Having trouble decorating it? That's my forte, so just leave it to me! Let me think. First... let's use some colorful stickers to create a pattern!
- Maybe it's because my family also manages a shrine, I feel pretty comfortable training here. Although my place does not have a god as cute as Ichihime! Speaking of cat-eared priestesses... I heard that Kiyosumi's sergeant would dress as a maid to serve customers in her own Mahjong Club. Maybe, it would be a good idea to do some cosplay in my shrine to attract customers? I'll suggest this to my sis next time!
- Thanks, but the least give me a reason next time. I feel kinda embarrassed to receive a gift from you out of the blue.
- OMG! This... this is adorable! Thanks, I really love this!
- Speaking of Kiyosumi's vanguard, she does look like me in my primary school days, like we even shared the same hairstyle and stuff. I was quite shocked, too, when I first saw her. However, over the years, only I've properly grown up, in many ways!
- Excuse me, just a moment. I need to fix my makeup before the match starts. Although makeup has nothing to do with Mahjong, it does affect my mood. I must be at my best before getting into action.
- After all, it is the national tournament. It's not surprising to see some incredibly gifted players. I'm not gonna lie, I do envy them. They are so gifted that it's almost like they are cheating, but since I'm already on the stage, retreating is no longer an option. I shall show them my way of fighting!
- What I would like to do after being crowned as the champion of the national tournament...? I guess the first thing I would do is to apologize to Harue. Before the semi-finals, I doubted if she was using our results as a stepping stone to becoming a professional Jyanshi. However, after we won, Harue actually cried. She was genuinely happy for us... I would like to repay her for bringing us to this place, not only by making it into the semi-finals for her but also by achieving something further.
- Of course winning makes me happy, but... sometimes I can't help thinking about how the losing side must feel. I imagine even those who always seem happy would still tear up when they lose. The fact that I will only be able to face them again after a year makes me feel like a coward who runs away as soon as victory is secured... But it is what it is. I guess this must be what winners have to carry with them to keep going.
- Hmm? Why are you not coming over after changing into your swimsuit? Why are you blushing? Don't tell me you're feeling embarrassed seeing me in my swimsuit. Come on, come here. It's not often that we have the chance to come to the seaside. It would be a waste of opportunity if we don't loosen ourselves up. Come on!
- Happy New Year. I've just spent the night celebrating the new year with Shizu and the gang. Right now, it's time for me to rush home to help out my family. This is the busiest time for the shrine. You're welcome to drop by if you are free. It's not often that you can see me in a miko outfit, you know? Hehe.
- Chocolate? Ah, today's Valentine's Day. My bad, the only chocolate I'm holding is for Shizu... Pfft, haha! Come on, why the long face? I'm just messing with you. How can I not prepare chocolate on a day like this? Here you go, Happy Valentine's Day!
