"Next." At the audition for a top fashion magazine, the models in the waiting room watch yet another candidate walk out defeated – each one relieved but also uneasy about their own turn. At the staff's call, a girl rises from an unnoticed corner and steps into the audition room. Looking calm and composed, she seems oblivious to the tense atmosphere around her. "First-timer? I see you've only done fitting model gigs before..." The editor-in-chief skims the resume, clear skepticism in her tone. "Yes." Intrigued by the girl's fearless gaze – a rarity in nervous newcomers – the editor-in-chief decides to give her a chance. "Show me some of your poses." The girl turns slightly sideways, then casually drapes the prop backpack around one shoulder, showcasing her appealing figure without overshadowing the design of the branded bag. Next, she settles into the chair, back to the camera, before turning just enough to cast a smoldering, mysterious look over her shoulder. Without waiting for the photographer's direction, she drops to her knees, shaking loose her long blue hair. Arms wrapped tightly around herself, she tilts her head up with a honey-sweet smile. Her every move exudes expression, far more than any other candidate here. It's as if she were born for the camera. "You are quite versatile. Did you work on these poses?" A look of appreciation flashes in the editor-in-chief's eyes. "It's just part of the job." The girl in front of her is stunning beyond measure. The editor-in-chief can already see it: she's destined to become a fashion icon. She has always been generous with her compliments for those who are capable. "You're outstanding." "Thank you. I look forward to working with your company." The girl replies with quiet confidence, and she doesn't seem at all fazed by the company's reputation for being one of the best in the industry. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves – you've only cleared the first round." The editor-in-chief chuckles. "The next round of the interview is in three days. You'll be doing a photo shoot out in the sun for a whole afternoon. We'll see if you can handle that." The magazine has given newcomers chances before, but none of the photo shoots worked out due to their lack of experience. Still, something about this girl makes her hope for a different outcome. The editor-in-chief watches the girl leave. The summer heat hangs heavy, cicadas buzzing relentlessly outside – yet as her eyes follow that retreating figure, the air somehow feels cooler. One month later, the girl and the editor-in-chief meet again at the official photo shoot. She poses even more skillfully than she did in the last audition, putting on an enthralling performance with just the right amount of charm. Even the editor-in-chief, who is accustomed to fashion's finest, is also surprised by her transformation. "I feel like I'm witnessing a new star rising in the fashion world. Why not take 'Astraia,' the goddess of the stars, as your stage name?" She suggests. To her surprise, the girl says another name instead after a moment of thought. "Cynthia... the goddess of the moon." The editor-in-chief repeats, eyebrows raised. Under the spotlight, the girl beams a smile. "The sky holds countless stars. But now that I've chosen this path, I want to shine like the moon – the one and only." |
