[Yui Yagi] Yes, I miss them dearly.
[player] I'm sorry... I shouldn't have brought this up.
[Yui Yagi] No, it's okay. I've already accepted that they're gone.
[player] I see. You're really strong, Yui.
[player] What were your parents like?
[Yui Yagi] Like I said before, they were both scientists. I think they met at the laboratory where they worked.
[player] Dad was usually quiet and didn't smile much. But he was actually very gentle and sometimes said quirky things to make us all laugh.
[player] (Yui's personality probably comes from her father.)
[Yui Yagi] Mom was outgoing and had many friends. She was always smiling brightly, and whenever I helped with chores, she'd pat my head...
[player] Sounds like they were complete opposites.
[player] Perhaps that's exactly why they got along so well.
[Yui Yagi] Yeah, perhaps.
Yui sits there with the straw in her mouth, gazing at me without a word.
Is there something on my face again? I check with my hand, but don't find anything.
[player] Hmm... Is everything okay?
[Yui Yagi] Yeah, it's nothing.
I still can't figure out what she's thinking. But somehow, she looks happier than usual.
Riverside Walkway
[-] After leaving Éternité, we keep walking and eventually come to a pathway along the river.
The breeze is refreshing against my face. Though my cold just cleared up a bit, I feel like I could walk for miles.
[Yui Yagi] Senpai, you're looking better.
[player] Really? I do feel much more energetic now.
[Yui Yagi] It's probably the coffee.
Yui appears to smile briefly, though the light reflecting off the water makes it difficult to tell for certain.
[Yui Yagi] Sometimes, I wonder...
[Yui Yagi] ...what life would be like if my parents were still around.
Yui leans against the railing, her eyes narrowing slightly as she looks at the river.
[Yui Yagi] I'm in college now, so I probably wouldn't be holding their hands walking home anymore. I might even be seeing them less and less frequently.
[Yui Yagi] But no matter how old they got, we'd still be just as close to each other. We'd walk along rivers like this, having pleasant conversations.
[Yui Yagi] Back home, my father would brew a pot of coffee, and we'd all share stories about our day.
[Yui Yagi] I would just sit quietly, listening to their conversation.
[Yui Yagi] Just listening would be enough to make me happy.
[Yui Yagi] Senpai...
Yui turns to face me.
[Yui Yagi] Have I really never moved on?
[Yui Yagi] I thought I'd moved beyond the pain of losing them, but...
[Yui Yagi] Every time I look back on the past, I just think... I can't keep being like this.
[player] There's nothing wrong with that.
[Yui Yagi] What?
[player] This might not be my place, but there's no need to rush past your grief.
[player] Sometimes it's okay not to be strong. There's nothing wrong with dwelling on memories of them.
[Yui Yagi] Maybe. Thank you.
I join Yui at the railing, leaning against it as she does.
As the sun begins to set, its light dances across the water, making the gem-like sparkles even more radiant.
[Yui Yagi] My parents were studying something about "parallel universes," I think.
[player] Parallel universes? That sounds like science fiction.
[Yui Yagi] I'm not entirely sure either. They didn't tell me much about it.
[player] Are those like different universes from our own?
[player] It sounds incredible... could something like that actually exist?
[Yui Yagi] I don't know.
[Yui Yagi] Senpai, if there were another world, would you want to visit it?
