It's almost dusk by the time we return to the shrine. The setting sun elongates our shadows behind us, and Mai always stays half a step behind me with her head down. I don't know what's on her mind.
[player]What's on your mind?
[Mai Aihara]Oh, nothing... I suddenly noticed that our shadows have overlapped.
[player]You're right. Have you seen that recent anime? Having a shadow at least proves that we are humans.
[Mai Aihara]I'm not good with scary topics. I just think that our shadows look very happy together like that...
I don't know if it’s the setting sun, but her face looks a little red. Mai seems much more relaxed than before, but she becomes shy again due to the dreamy atmosphere.

[player]Huh? That sound is...
A furry creature appears in front of us suddenly. It's Tubby!
[Mai Aihara]It's Tubby! He really did return to the shrine!
[Mai Aihara]Geez! Master and I looked around everywhere for you... I was so worried about you Tubby. Did you know that...?
[Tubby]Nyaaaa!
Tubby doesn't understand the troubles of people, so he reveals his tummy to act cute, which is always effective. Although Mai complains about Tubby, her eyes are full of unconcealed love. She strokes every inch of Tubby's fur like she's making sure Tubby isn't hurt.
[player]I'll buy a collar with GPS for you so you'll know if Tubby has gone anywhere dangerous.
[Mai Aihara]Thank you, Master... I've caused you so much trouble today.
[player]Not at all. I'm relieved that Tubby has returned home safely too.
[Mai Aihara]If you don't mind, please rest for a while at the shrine. I'll make you some tea.
[player]Thanks, Mai.
[Mai Aihara]Yes... And if you don't mind my cooking, would you like to stay for dinner?
Mai asks me that question hesitantly after picking up Tubby, and I can tell she has plucked up a lot of courage before asking. Before this, she has hardly invited anyone on her own initiative. Does this mean she already considers us to be good friends?

[Tubby]Nyaa!
[player]Stop shouting, you greedy little cat. Your owner won't forget your share.
And with that, our search for Tubby comes to an end. I stay at the shrine and have dinner with Mai.
Although we never find out where Tubby went during the day, we are both relieved that he has returned home safely. I'll need to hurry up and get him one of those collars with GPS soon.
