抜けるような青空をした夏の昼下がり

Character:
categoryStory:

Despite being a splendid, relaxing summer day, the atmosphere inside the Mahjong Soul Shrine is as oppressive as if thunderclouds were looming, and everyone looks nervous... I'd just stepped into the room to bring Ichihime some snacks, but upon seeing the scene before me, I take a deep breath and have a hunch.
[player]It must be that girl who's been coming here a lot recently that created such a heavy atmosphere, like "the devil's in the house."
[Chiori Mikami]Yakuman!
Sure enough, I'd barely finished speaking when I spot the blonde girl playing a lively match, her conspicuous red hairband like a warning to strangers to approach at their own peril.
Glancing at the table, the number of scattered scoring sticks clearly indicates that Chiori Mikami has just totally crushed her opponents.
[Chiori Mikami]Hmph, all bark but no bite. Talked a big game but really, what a disappointment. Just now, who was just flapping their gums, saying they were gonna take Chiori down a peg or two?
Amongst the watching crowd's admiration for Chiori Mikami, the Jyanshi opposite stands up dejectedly from the table, a grudging and awkward smile on their face.
[Jyanshi A]Hey, we let you win. Otherwise you'd probably cry or something.
[Jyanshi B & Jyanshi C]Yeah! That's right!
Hearing this excuse, the other two Jyanshi nod frantically. Chiori Mikami's expression suddenly darkens.
[Chiori Mikami]Huh? Let me win? You three "glass fogeys"?
[Jyanshi C]Glass?
[Chiori Mikami]Your tactics and your tiles are like glass - I can see right through them.
[Jyanshi B]Er... Haha, can't you take a joke, kid? Don't need to take it so seriously, eh?
[Chiori Mikami]Back at you! After all, you looked a lot more serious when finding an excuse than playing!
Chiori Mikami unceremoniously calls them out, and the surrounding crowd gradually grows louder, showing that everyone else has issues with what the three Jyanshi had said, too. Their expressions grow more and more embarrassed, first blushing red and then turning pale as they pathetically hang their heads.
[Jyanshi A]Sorry, we were being petty. I apologize.
[Chiori Mikami]Instead of apologizing, get out of here and practice. I've lost count of the number of Jyanshi I've met who are all talk and no action.
Through a chorus of boos, the three red-faced Jyanshi leave in a hurry. Having watched the whole scene, I can't help but let out a sigh.
